G-WORK

A practical pre-cut checklist for garment patterns

The same pattern can produce a different result when DXF units, usable fabric width, grain direction or printer settings differ. Use this guide to check a G-WORK result against your actual production conditions.

1. Check the import

Keep the original file separately and work from a copy. Compare a known measurement with the displayed dimension. A shape can look correct even when missing or interpreted units make it the wrong size.

Compare piece names and counts, front/back and left/right relationships, notches and internal markings with the source. Investigate import warnings in the original CAD file. Do not assume a marking omitted at import will appear on the print.

2. Define the fabric conditions

The usable cutting width may be less than the full fabric width. Determine the usable width after allowing for selvedges and damaged areas, then enter the width you will actually use.

Check grain direction, nap or sheen, pattern matching and whether mirroring is allowed against the production instructions. A piece fitting on screen does not by itself establish that it is suitable for directional fabric. Distinguish mirrored pairs from different left and right pieces.

3. Review the marker

Check the quantity of each piece and the required set count before arranging. Zoom in to check for missing or unexpectedly duplicated pieces, pieces outside the usable width and overlaps.

The fabric estimator multiplies the selected marker length by the number of plies and applies the allowance you enter. Pattern quantities are already included in the marker, so do not multiply them a second time. Fabric price is optional; estimated cost excludes taxes and delivery.

The displayed marker length and utilization compare the supplied patterns and layout settings. They are not automatically a purchasing quantity including defects, shrinkage, pattern matching allowances or spreading and cutting losses. Account for actual site conditions separately.

4. Measure the print

G-WORK offers A4, A3, A2, A1, A0, Letter and custom paper sizes. Support for custom roll sections varies by browser, printer and driver; test with your own equipment.

Choose the paper size and orientation that match the printer. Select 100% or actual size and turn off fit-to-page, shrinking and enlargement.

Before printing the full job, print a known reference measurement and measure it horizontally and vertically against the original. Devices, drivers and feed can introduce errors or unprintable margins; adjust and remeasure. For tiled pages, match alignment marks first, then check that outlines and notches continue correctly.

5. Make the final check

Compare representative dimensions, piece counts, left/right direction, grain, notches and internal marks with the source and production instructions. Resolve uncertain details and reprint as necessary; have the responsible person check before cutting real fabric.

Save a separate project file for backup or transfer to another device. Browser recovery is local to that browser and may be removed when site data is cleared.

Troubleshooting

Print too large or small: check print scale and paper size, then compare a known measurement and DXF units.

Marker longer than expected: review usable width, quantities, direction restrictions and mirrored-pair settings. Evaluate calculated results and actual fabric conditions separately.

Missing markings: check import warnings and the original DXF. Unsupported or ambiguous elements need separate review.
